Whitewater Canada: Instructional, Leadership and Safety Programming

Community Kayak Instructor 1 - Pool NEW: This one day program is directed to clubs that run winter pool sessions and lifeguards who work at pools, who may wish to teach kayaking and have experienced the skills. Topics covered are risk management, basic pool safety, ethics, teaching methodology, common paddling injuries and equipment.  Technical skills covered are strokes and the rolling progression.
Course Fee: $100.00 includes pool costs, plus fees* below

Community Kayak Instructor 1  Open Water (currently AWA/NCCP Level1):
This program qualifies successful candidates to teach kayaking on flatwater sites such as lakes.
Course Fee: $150.00 plus fees* below

Swiftwater Rescue and Safety: This Whitewater Canada course teaches river dynamics, hazards, proactive rescue planning, gorilla rescue techniques, mechanical advantage systems, knots, anchors, planning and leading rescues and organization of rescues.  This course (or an equivalent) is a pre-requisite for certification in all of the following courses.
Course Fee: $250.00 plus fees* below

Kayak Leader 2: This one day course is risk management focused and covers the details of trip planning and leading a group down the river on Class I  II water.  This course (or an equivalent) is a pre-requisite for Kayak Instructor 2 and Whitewater Leader 3.  Topics that will be covered are risk management: liability, waivers, standards of care, emergency action planning and instructor administration; leadership: communication and demonstration of rescue and paddling skills; and organization: group management and scouting techniques.

Kayak Instructor 2 (AWA/NCCP Level 2): This course is for those who wish to instruct groups on Class II water.  Topics that will be covered are site selection, teaching methodology, session planning, group management, communication common paddling injuries and basic rescue.  Technical skills covered are basic eddy turns (in and out), boat ferrying, s-turns, surfing, back ferrying, the moving water roll and pivots.  Participants will also learn how to introduce leadership concepts to students when instructing on moving water.

Whitewater Leader 3: This course follows the same format as the Kayak Leader 2 course, but for trip planning and leading on Class III - IV water.
Course Fee: $150.00 plus fees* below

Kayak Instructor 3: This course is for those who wish to instruct groups on Class III - IV water.
Course Fee: $250. plus fees* below
Students learn real life skills, test their physical limits and have fun in a healthy environment.
